Patented Tire Liner Material Protects Bicycle Inner Tubes

Bike Tire Liner Material

SpinSkins' patented weaving technology produces the tightest weave ever achieved in high-strength fibers. The result is a tough, lightweight material that is highly puncture resistant. SpinSkins tire liners use this patented material to provide superior and dependable inner tube protection. The Race model uses Vectran® and aramid, high-performance fibers known for its outstanding strength and cut resistance. The fibers used in the Race model provide more strength than steel at significantly less weight. The Duro model uses puncture-resistant industrial-strength fibers that provide economical inner tube protection for the recreational or commuter cyclist.

Inner Tube Puncture Protection
Bicycle tires that are not protected by SpinSkins tire liners are vulnerable to inner tube damage from sharp objects that break off in the tire itself. Eventually, these objects will work their way into the inner tube and cause a flat. SpinSkins tire liners resist these objects and either divert them before they can reach the inner tube, or push them back out of the tire before they can cause any damage. Thorns such as cactus, goathead, hawthorn, and mesquite snap off as well as general road debris including glass shards and sharp rocks have trouble penetrating SpinSkins' surface.

Inner Tube Pinch Flat Protection
SpinSkins Race bicycle tire liners are able to double a tire's inner tube pinch flat resistance by spreading the contact force over the densely packed fabric. The density of the weave used in SpinSkins helps to prevent impacts from pinching the inner tube by dispersing force. This works much the same way that snowshoes distribute weight over a larger area to prevent you from sinking in the snow. Lab tests show that the average pinch flat can occur at straight-impact pressures as low as 500 lbs. of force. SpinSkins can help prevent pinch flats up to 1000 lbs. of force. At 1100 lbs. of force, a typical bicycle rim will start to dent!

Road, Mountain and Lab Tested Protection
The puncture resistance performance of SpinSkins has been put to the test by professional cyclists who log thousands of miles each year on some of the harshest terrain. Before SpinSkins even make it to the road or a mountain trail, the materials undergo testing in our laboratory on an electron wheel that simulates performance over rocks, debris, and other outdoor hazards. While SpinSkins are tough enough to withstand the brutal wear and tear inflicted by this testing device, most bicycle rims cannot. Some manufacturers use our lab data to assess the performance of their bicycle wheel and rim products.
